Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Syria in 1958, bilateral relations between the two countries have always been good and cordial. Bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Syria have gained momentum since the opening of resident embassies in Kuala Lumpur and Damascus respectively. Malaysia established its resident Embassy at the ambassadorial level in Damascus in February 2002 while Syria established its Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in June 2001.
